The so called Innocent
Highway takes its name from the form of transport used between 1831 (when
the railway was built) and 1845 when it became a "real" railway. Horses
were used for transport between 1831 and 1845 and despite 400.000 passengers used
the railway no one was never killed.
The railway was planned by the famous engineer Robert Stevenson. |
